How This Tool Works
A pregnancy due date calculator estimates the expected delivery date based on the first day of your last menstrual period (LMP). It uses the standard Naegele's Rule, which adds 280 days (40 weeks) to the LMP date. This is the same method your OB-GYN uses for initial dating. The calculator also shows your current trimester, weeks of pregnancy, and key developmental milestones. Remember: only about 5% of babies arrive exactly on their due date — most arrive within a two-week window before or after.
Formula / Methodology
Naegele's Rule:
Due Date = LMP + 280 days (equivalent to LMP + 1 year − 3 months + 7 days).💡 Tips & Best Practices
- 1Only about 5% of babies are born exactly on their due date — a 2-week window before and after is normal.
- 2First-time mothers tend to deliver a few days past their due date on average.
- 3An early ultrasound (6–9 weeks) gives the most accurate dating, especially if your cycles are irregular.
- 4This calculator assumes a standard 28-day cycle — if your cycle is longer or shorter, your actual due date may differ.
Frequently Asked Questions
How accurate is a due date calculator?
Due dates are estimates. The LMP method assumes a 28-day cycle with ovulation on day 14. An ultrasound in the first trimester is the most accurate way to date a pregnancy (±5–7 days).
What are the three trimesters?
First trimester: weeks 1–12 (organ formation). Second trimester: weeks 13–26 (rapid growth, movement felt). Third trimester: weeks 27–40 (weight gain, lung maturation, preparation for birth).
